Israeli Airstrikes Rock Yemeni Capital: Civilian Casualties Mount in Escalating Middle East Conflict

In a dramatic escalation of regional tensions, Israel launched a series of air strikes on Yemen's capital, Sanaa, and the al-Jawf governorate on Wednesday, leaving at least nine people dead and over a hundred wounded. This attack comes just one day after Israel targeted Hamas leaders in Doha, Qatar, signaling a significant expansion of its military operations beyond Gaza.

The Yemeni Ministry of Health reported that the death toll could rise as rescue teams continue to search for victims in the aftermath of the bombardment. The strikes hit multiple civilian areas, including residential neighborhoods, medical facilities, and government compounds, causing widespread destruction and panic among the local population.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as civil defense teams rushed to extinguish fires and pull survivors from the rubble. The attacks targeted various locations, including homes in Sanaa's al-Tahrir neighborhood, a medical facility on 60th Street, and a government compound in al-Jawf's capital, al-Hazm.

Houthi-run Al Masirah TV reported that the raids also struck a medical facility for the health sector in southwest Sanaa and the local government compound in al-Hazm. The Yemen Oil and Gas Corporation confirmed that Israeli jets had targeted a medical station on al-Sitteen Street in the capital.

In response to the airstrikes, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree claimed that the group had used surface-to-air missiles to confront the Israeli incursion. He stated that some Israeli planes were forced to turn back before they could discharge their weapons, though these claims have not been independently verified.

The attack on Yemen marks a significant expansion of Israel's military operations in the region, raising concerns about the potential for a wider conflict. The international community has expressed alarm at the escalating violence, with calls for restraint and a return to diplomatic negotiations growing louder.

As tensions continue to rise, the world watches anxiously to see how this latest development will impact the already volatile situation in the Middle East. With civilian casualties mounting and infrastructure being destroyed, the human cost of this expanding conflict is becoming increasingly apparent, prompting urgent calls for a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
